Your Kindle,
as a health display.
E-ink is readable in direct sun, the battery lasts weeks, and the Kindle is already in a drawer. The Dash display page is built to render on exactly this kind of hardware.
Read this part first. A stock Kindle sleeps after about ten minutes and shows its screensaver, not your dashboard. There is no supported way to turn that off. So Dash on a Kindle is a glance device: tap to wake, and the numbers are current within a second or two. It is not an always-on wall display. Anyone telling you otherwise is describing a jailbroken Kindle.
Setting one up
- Connect a provider and open your dashboard.
- Create a display and copy its link.
- On the Kindle, open the browser. On most models it is under the menu, listed as Web Browser or Experimental Browser.
- Type the link in, then bookmark it. You only do this once.
- Leave auto-refresh on. The page reloads itself on a timer so a woken Kindle shows current numbers.
Why the display page looks the way it does
It is plain HTML and plain CSS. No JavaScript is required to render it, no web fonts, no gradients, no animation, and no colour carries meaning. Every number is legible in pure black and white, because that is all a Kindle has.
Which Kindles
Designed to work on browser-capable Kindle models. Amazon has shipped many variations of that browser over the years and some are considerably older than others, so treat it as something to try rather than something guaranteed. It costs you one bookmark to find out.
